Stereophonic is thrilled to able to be analog from start to finish, along with the best Pro Tools HD system available - the 192 HD3 for pristine recording captures.

Start on tape, edit on tape, mix to tape, then get it mastered.
We use both digital and analog all the time - and hitting tape even once makes a big difference.

Now, the gear:

Outboard compression, EQ and circuits from Purple Audio (MC77), dbx, Eisen,
Universal Audio, Hardy (M1), Atlas, and many other independent vintage designers (including ourselves!)

The legendary Scully 280, 1" 8 track from 1969. The exact same model used on "Good Vibrations", Atlantic Records (Tom Dowd); Motown...
We mix down using either NAB (US) or IEC (Europe/German) tape curves (depending on what you like) on a very versatile audiophile Otari 2 track master recorder.

Our API-designed Sound Workshop 1280b. Beyerdynamic mic transformers, custom steel transformers everywhere else. 100% vintage design.

Everything is fixed in-house - our stuff (and yours, too). We also repair vintage studio electronics and build our own tube based designs.

Mics available include vintage ribbon mics from Beyerdynamic and B&O (the original Royer design!), Neumann, AKG 414 B-ULS stereo pair, a new in-house modded Neumann clone,
an assortment of vintage dynamic mics from Shure and Electrovoice in the 50's and 60's, modded and improved condensers, ribbons and dynamics of all sorts, and more.

It feels good recording when you know that it's vintage gear all around you.

But - this is important - great gear alone doesn't make a great record. Any place in town has this mic and that console. We've got the good stuff, too,
although ours might be a more true blend of old school feel with some new amazing designs and clarity.

It's the engineer working with you, the artist, the group, playing back records and takes, talking about
how you want the recording to sound, how it needs to 'feel', and how everyone can make every recording the best it can be.

Accurately conveying intention - that's what made Abbey Road, Stax, Atlantic, Western Recorders and EMI legendary.
That's why we're here.
